I'm getting very close to the finish line on my restore.
I actually got it honed up I don't have a strop yet so I know I can get it sharper. But it was sharp enough to try my first straight razor...

I picked up some micro film locally and put it on some granite tile as a base.
it's not ideal but it seems to work. I just need to get good at honing to get my razor shave ready and get a strop.

Well I started honing and you where right about the shoulder. I thought i took it down enough before. but I had to take it back to the grinder.

No I don't have a table saw yet. I used a band saw VERY CAREFULLY it wasn't
easy but it got the job done.

Oh yeah and don't worry I'll be extra careful and the razor won't be near the crystals after honing.

Well it's been a while. I've been busy working late in the garage carving some Black Walnut and hammering some brass rivets. :needcoffee:

any particular finish to the leather or thickness. or just plain leather works.

For now I'm just waiting to get some money set aside for a razor and strop so I figured I might as well tinker around with the resto on the razor I picked up at the antique shop. I'm in between jobs...

So if the blade is 11/16 now and I had to take it to say 9/16 to get to good steel would that affect the razor drastically or is that just what it takes sometimes.

Well I bought my first straight razor yesterday at an antique store for $7.00
I tried shaving with it and it was the single worst experience of my life
BAR NONE.
