I'm going to suggest that the word you can't see is either "Warranted" or "Sheffield", since J.Nowill and sons operated from there from the 1700's through to more modern times.

For Os: J.Adams LTD has the rights to use the name of J.Nowill and Sons these days. So you will still see Nowill knives being made today.

For Geoff: We do mate, they incorporate that sort of thing...
