Take a black marks a lot or similar marker blacken about 1/4" from the cutting edge toward the spine then try the method on a finisher/all you'll do is wipe the black off and be able to see how wide...

Try going back to one layer of tape and give this a try. Just make sure your edge of your hones are knocked off a bit. This does work with wonky blades. :tu
