I once was told that the space between was sometimes an indicator that the blade had been rescaled or cut down...

I've been noticing on many vintage razors that there is a small space between the end of the blade and the wedge; for example, my "new" Droescher has about a 2/8 gap and same with my Antoni Tadross....
