In concept was pretty simple,turn the crank,the levers transfer motion at 90 degs to the plate in the pillow block which than turns,getting it timed so that all worked took months,bend,lap,...

Or maybe tottaly useless tools you had to devise in school because your instructor said,You have to make a tool from scratch that can transfer motion at 90 degs using no gears or pullys or...

Most any older american tool is a better tool,problem with old files is they wear out over time,I know mine are.

An old metal shop teacher of mine once told me that if you compleatly degrease a file that pour hydrochloric acid on it sparingly,it will over a shot period, re-cut the orig teeth, never tried it tho.
