Here's an update.
I completed the sanding on the scales and decided to oil the scales with a neutral coloured oil. The problem was that the oil dissolved the glue. :( And due to earlier mistakes... -

Ok, here are the last pictures for now. I have put the wedge in there and some rough sanding. The shadows on the pictures make it look really uneven but it's not. Both sides are symetrical.
