Some of my bristles have split over time, but by no means all of them. Maybe 30-40% split like a boar brush. Seems to me it was the thicker bristles that split...but I'm not looking at it right now....

+1 to that. I agree. It doesn't smell "bad" like animal musk or something. It's just a funky smell, not really offensive, but not pleasant either.
