    Default Horsehair anyone ?

I am totally hooked on horsehair brushes. I currently have a Vie Long 13061, and the Turkish handmade horsehair from bestshave. I want to add to the stable but I'm having a hard time finding other manufacturers that use horse hair. Horsehair at one time was a very popular choice in brushes. It's able to whip up hard soaps and soft creams. It's soft but with backbone and has a nice soft scrubby feeling when you face lather with it. So where can I find more horsehair brushes to feed my BAD ?

Yes, at one time Horsehair was the brush for the common man until the Anthrax scares when boar replaced it. It's still used a lot for shoe brushes and some other types of brushes but you won't find too many outfits using it for shave brushes. I think Vie long is the main outfit using it. You might check with Omega or that other outfit in Portugal

3 Claveles is another brand of horsehair shaving brush. I have never used a 3 Claveles brush so cannot comment on their quality.

I would like to find a source for horse hair knots and make my own brush. Any ideas?

I used a horsehair brush for the longest time, in fact I preferred it to the badger I had at the same time. Between the two the horsehair lathered more quickly and was a little more vigorous feeling. It had a little more stiffness which I liked, really felt like you were really scrubbing the lather into your stubble (in a good way).

I can't speak from experience but I've heard from a lot of sources that horsehair brushes are the perfect middle ground between the stiffness of a boar brush and the luxurious softness of a badger brush. The Vie Long Horsehair brush is on my list of stuff I really don't need but absolutely have to spend money on. I'll be ordering one from Phil (Bullgoose) very soon.

I have had the Vie long 13061 for a couple of week sand have come to like it alot. It does lather much nicer than my badger brushes, I don't have any high dollar badger brushes so mprobably not a good comparison. Yet I have come to tlike the feel of hte horsehair.

One thing to note is it took several intense washing to get the die odor off of the brush. I used creme, it lathered well and turned a very dark brown. I rinsed and then repeated a couple of times before I actually used it on skin.
