I used the square tubing with holes in it that you can get at Menards, etc.. for my 6 inch wheel - works fine, and a lot cheaper than solid bar stock. The plastic wheels from USA Knifemakers work...

Now you need an 8 inch wheel. And a 6 inch - a 4 inch, a 2 inch (put it on the top of you flat platten set up). etc, etc, etc. Not a cheap journey.

A true wedge would take forever to hone, since you would have to remove metal from the entire side every time you honed it. I have seen posts about folks grinding 1/4 hollows with a bench grinder. ...
