The scales on mine have delaminated as well at the pivot end but look OK after a bit of careful sanding.
It's just over 7/8 at the widest point

SNAP!! I've got one just like it on the bench ATM.
I've polished the blade and am going to replace the lead wedge with aluminium.
I soaked the scales in neetsfoot oil and they have come up lovely....
