This is a great experiment, it teaches new comers to learn one stone at a time. You can get a decent shave off a 1k, just takes a steady hand and a proper stropping.

If you guys want to push your 1k stones as far as you can, try honing with a dab of lather (very little) as too much lifts the blade off the stone. Or even just a small drop of dish soap in the water...

This was a great idea, sometimes we forget what can be done with very little. With so much common knowledge seemingly set in stone as the gold standard, it's very easy to not remember what we can do...
