Onimaru thanks for the info, with knives right before I move from one stone to the other I do this odd thing where I let the metal build up a little and use a much lighter stroke I've found it helps...

What live been honing on has been a norton 1k for bevel setting then a BBW/coti finishing on a LM.
I bought 2/5/8k shapton pro stones for my knives at work and they are really fast by comparison...
