There are many examples of peening without...
There are many examples of peening without washers especially with original ivory - however, it's my opinion that this is also the main reason why you see so many ivory scales with splits and cracks....

Someone else suggested that a coating of varnish...
Someone else suggested that a coating of varnish would help to prevent verdigris - to be honest I didn't consider that because the liners are accessible therefore a cotton bud with cleaning agent...

Thanks - the thing about Filly scales is that they have inbuilt bearers on the inside pivot - this is to accomodate the tang which tapers at the monkey tail and would rub on the insides without them....
