Why not just use some regular brass or stainless rod with washers and peen it over in the way that was done originally? Hex head screws may seem to be the answer but they don't look as good do they?...

There have been lots of enquiries around screws and washer availability in the UK (I don';t know much about the rest of Europe) but the best option seems to be Microfasteners and just wait that bit...
