That's why I've been looking over ebay for a cheap but good old brush. That's exactly what I'm looking to do.

What did you do to drill out the old glue without harming the body of the brush?

Why not cut the old knot out and epoxy a new one in again? Then you'll know what the hair is but have a good new brush that still ties you to your past and family.
