Titanium scales.. or at least with a top layer of Ti.. acrylic or some other material under it.. this would be really interesting.

It's the game of edge holding ability. There is no match to carbon steel. I am sure you might be able to get a Ti alloy to shave but it would most likely be less than satisfactory.
