Oh and if the pin is bent just do both sides. Saw sounds like a good idea but I wonder how much damage it would do. Are you saving the scales, thrust washer, and more scratches on the tang ?

Sometimes I get lucky and hit the exact middle and they drill right out. Then it's just, file the end of the pin till the scale slides off.

I scribe till I get a good mark in the middle of the pin. Then under glass a very small center punch. I have a pin drill to start the hole by hand. Then to the drill press. Start with small dia....
