I used to have one of the brass ones.I cut down for an ashtray and have since quit smoking and have gotten rid of it. Yep stupid me,and all the ones I gave now. aren't brass but some form of metal....

Mine are large shells are 76mm, but not brass unfortunately. And as for the ones in the picture, without cutting the top off or anything the opening is just at about 25.5mm probably closer to 26mm.

Your right, thats a bit bigger, my larger ones are outside, probably a bit smaller then that but not much. Im a big fan of those with wood tips as Ive seen at many formal military events.

Im just curious, how do those knots compare to say a Omega or a Simpson? (pardon my ignorance)

Bob, I was actually thinking about cutting it in half, and starting from there so I didnt have a 6 inch or so handle, but i would love to have a gigantic brush. Why not, at least it would be...

I added a picture of the shells, not mine but basically the exact thing, just without the tips. At least this will give us all a better idea of what I'm wanting to work with.

I'll take some pictures later this evening, but as mentioned they are 25 mm shell casings, right now they are currently attached in a string of 8 I believe but the chain can be adjusted.

As I look at the brass I've been trying to figure out what to fill the shell with or the knot will have nothing to brace itself to.
Ideas? Thoughts?
