Default Brush made fom ammo shell?

Has anyone made a brush out of a expended ammo shell casing? As I was going through my house yesterday i noticed the string of expended 25 mm shell casings that I had, and thought to myself, that could be a pretty cool shave brush if the opening was right. Thoughts?

I had the same idea a few months ago but totally forgot about it until i saw your thread. I think its a great idea. If you manage to make a brush using an ammo shell please post some pics. It would be great to see how it turns out.

As I look at the brass I've been trying to figure out what to fill the shell with or the knot will have nothing to brace itself to.
    Ideas? Thoughts?

How about gluing some wood (I would think you should be able to get a dowel of the same diameter or at least close) in there with epoxy or gorilla glue, then drilling out the wood to seat the knot?

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

    Nice idea
    Which shell,have you got a photo ?
With a strong (maritime) epoxy and a little work in the base of the knot could be done.

Well, since any shell large enough to hold a decent knot is likely to be heavy even empty, how about using expanding foam insulation to fill it with. You can set the depth of the knot by easily drilling the foam out and it won't be has heavy as other fillers would be.

I'll take some pictures later this evening, but as mentioned they are 25 mm shell casings, right now they are currently attached in a string of 8 I believe but the chain can be adjusted.

I added a picture of the shells, not mine but basically the exact thing, just without the tips. At least this will give us all a better idea of what I'm wanting to work with.

You are going to have one heck of a big bowl lathering brush there considering the shell is 137mm long. In another thought you could even swage the neck open a bit more and get a larger than 25mm knot in there. If you swage it open that should create a reverse shoulder large enough to use for setting the knot depth without having to fill the case with anything. Talk about a monster latherer then.
