Seen your test on 3C...as said they can reach some finer values...

Did you try with slurry and water ? Try water/glycerine solution to get a bit finer results...

With both its easy...purple or blue metallic looks different then black/gray or brownish ;-)

To point that out in detail...i dont think so!
If you ever owned one of the fine razor hones in blue metallic or purple bronze type you can make out the difference quite easy...also you would see...

Its a Pierre Naturelle de Saurat (sold as Pierre a Menuiser) and comes from Saurat today from Mr. Soucille....

They appear in different coloration. sometimes nearly Jet black, sometimes brownish...
