Most of the sanding I did was using dremel with a 1/6 hp motor and lots of attachments. It was pretty much all rust with very little grease. I did use greaseless compounds after all the sanding.

I would say that I spent about 4 hours sanding. Use grids from 80 to 1500.

There is some really small pitting, but not like i thought either
