When I hone I put a little inexpensive dish soap in the water and spray bottle, it helps the glide. Try putting some shave soap lather on your hone and see how you like that.

I was at two antique shops today and only found a few marginal razors and no hones. Needless to say, I didn't buy the razors because they were poor examples at best. Nice find.
