Many congratulations! That is of the highest quality..Mine was checked out at about 12K+ by Modine.
A good one to have if you hone without tape. even so a bit of tape doesn't take that long and six laps dry can do a wonder on a pulling blade.
Wash it well with only lather and a clean rag. I use most barber hones dry, Modine likes the lather on his. Your choice both are usually at your shave space.
Again; you came up a winner!

Thanks guys. It's in great shape too, no chips or dings, and I think I got a good deal.

I was at two antique shops today and only found a few marginal razors and no hones. Needless to say, I didn't buy the razors because they were poor examples at best. Nice find.

    Default Swaty 8"

Here's my Swaty. It is a more rarer one. It's every bit of 8 inches. I'm not trying to be a show off, you got really lucky & got one w/o any chips that I can see. You probably got that one for little or nothing. I don't have the luck in antique stores lately but I left my card with a couple the last time I went. I've since bought a couple for a good deal on eBay, lapped them on a diamond lap & resold them on eBay for even more. I didn't have to take much off them either.

Thanks, yep I ran into the same thing with the razors, I did not find any good ones. I am very happy with the hone though and that made it well worth the stop.

Congratulations! I'm sure that you're gonna love that hone.

I have come to enjoy using barber hones...I have a 5" Velvet Edge, and an 8" version of your Swaty...and though they both perform very well, I especially like the Swaty. It's amazing what a few strokes can do for a blade...and I really do mean "a few strokes"! I've tried using mine both wet and dry, and prefer to use it wet. Until recently, I was using plain water, but I read that Windex® works well; I tried it and liked the feel, and haven't used anything else since. For better or worse, I've decided to always use tape on my razors, even for a few swipes on a barber hone. I figure that the hone doesn't know to only remove steel at the cutting edge, and those microns removed from the spine add up!

    Enjoy your Swaty!
