One thing I have noticed on most if not all pictures of hones and stone is that they are always wet. On this site and ebay. The stone needs to be dry and so do your fingers.

My Shapton says 0.92 microns and my finger can feel them as well if it were on some woman's leg !!!!!!!!!! ...

Use your fingers to feel of it ! I know some have disagreed with using a finger earlier , but it works. Tongue would be a bad idea in this case even after washing it :rofl2:

Porcelain toilet is the same thing and it has more of a flat area to work with ;)

Yes I am saying you can hone on glass. With all respect to you glass works well. Add some soap stone and it works better. Old timers use to use the porcelain toilet to hone their razors.

You might be correct but I have shaved off of a hard arkie. Using my finger again it is a little coarser than the norton 8K that I own. It shave good but the aftershave will light you up ! :rofl2:

What am I feeling is something as smooth as glass, and I can see my re flexion in the stone. Also I have not found any thing that doesn't work . I probably have 40 barber hones, and many arkies....

I understand you can't do it that way ;) I'm not expert on figuring out the grit size. I use my finger and my tongue (after washing the stone) That is why I asked. I can't really blame the Chinese...

Why can't someone determent the grit of a natural stone or guess at it ? For example this Chinese 12K. Who determent the grit of a man made stone ?
