Those are brass pins. I epoxied the wedge between the scale halves and then pinned and peened them. Next I filed down smooth with the scales. They are tight.

With a wire EDM you only get a 2D cut so it has to go all the way through but you can release your part and rotate it or spin it and make additional cuts.

The balance is great. The scales were perfect for this blade. I was going to use bone but glad I went with the carbon fiber.
