Default I cheated but I’m an engineer.

So we had some scrap steel laying around and I sketched up a 3d model of my dream blade and we cut it out on a wire EDM machine. I know I don’t get points for forging but hey it was still fun and I learned something while doing it. 2nd shift hardened it last night in the tool room and below is what I have after a bit of stone work.

I am going to order some W1 steel and cut it out again. I will oredrill my hole and harden before cutting it this time. It’s cheating as I will cut it out onName: BD57F129-8CD3-4DDF-8166-02EE0AFDA08C.jpg

Pretty cool, its a razor! Who cares as long as it gives a good shave. What steel did you use Mr. Engineer?

For the others who like me have no idea of what a Wire EDM Machine is here's a link I found:

Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

    The EDM is realy cool...

What puzles me is that the spine looks thin-ish...but so do the bevels...how did you hone it?
Usualy there is a ''golden ratio'' for spine width/blade width for the geometru of the blade to be ok and put enough metal behind the edge to be both sharp and tough.

Also that spike point looks scary.

Other then that good job...the blade looks nice...let us know how it shaves!

Thanks for the feedback. So the blade in the picture has already been heat treated. I plan on adding a small radius on the top as it is a bit sharp. The blade is only 1/8 thick and I plan on making a final one thicker but I was working with scrap material and that’s the size I had. I was going to make a fixture for honing but I’ll just make another one the correct thickness.

You could just make a metal jacket that is wider and goes over the blade's spine like a frameback....that will akt as a honing jig an solder that into place or epoxy it

What a cool process, wasn’t aware of it at all. Great design and idea to make a SR.
