The spine looks way too thin for that width to my eye. General rule of thumb is that the width should be 3.5 to 4 times the spine thickness.
On second look, maybe you are OK. What is the spine thickness and the measurement from the edge to the grind line on the spine? The grind line is where the razor would contact the stone.Last edited by bluesman7; 12-03-2017 at 09:32 PM.

Thanked: 3I will get that measurement when I get back to town. This was really a test and I will be making the real deal probably next week or so from a thicker piece of material. This one is only .125” thick. The next one will also be hardened before I cut it and we will run the cut very slow for a nice finish. I had planned to clean this blade up but the heat treating looks so good I don’t want to touch it other than sharpening. I did make something to clamp on the blade to allow me to sharpen it consistently. I am trying to find a nice set of antlers for my scales. I have plenty but the best looking ones I don’t really want to cut. Haha
Thanks for looking and I will be sure to post pictures of the next one as well.

Very cool. I'm a tech guy so I totally dig the process.
The design is bad-ass. Love the long tang and the sleekness. It would look great in any collection although I'd be scared to shave with it. That spike point looks vicious.
Please post pics after you polish it and mount the scales.Last edited by JetHed; 12-07-2017 at 04:50 PM.

Bloody engineers always trying to get out of work
Nice idea mate I love the potential tolerances and the blade be cut fully hardened ready to go
And the 2 micron cut could have it very close to honed with only a refresh nearly to hone it up
Very clever indeed and no grinding sparksSaved,
to shave another day.

Engineers always find the best ways to do things... Did I mention that I am also an engineer
Your dream blade is a bit pointy! Looks good though.Fact: Opinions are not the same as facts... Well, that's my opinion anyway

Oh man, I want to do that.
That's really great. Let's see, $100K for the machine, and then... okay, I'm done.

From what I understand of the process, it looks like the tang and tail have to have the same width as the blade at the same depth because it's all through cuts? Are there techniques that let you go only part way through?

I like it very cool design. An who cares about how you got there you made a razor the way you could that’s more than most can say.
