Very cool design. Never heard of that process before. That is really interesting. Oh the possibilities...

I would have made a few changes to the design, but it isn't MY dream razor. As far as function goes, how do you like the feel of it with the shape of the thumb notch and the heavy scalloping on the back of the tang?
Seeing things like this makes wish I had considered another major (to one I could actually use). Once I got into calculus and imaginary numbers though I was struggling.
Going to wire cut the scales?

My best friend is a retired mechanical engineer and he loves this strip as the management is reminiscent of what he's seen first hand.

Well I was able to get in the shop and make the scales today. I think they turned out good and I love the carbon fiber look. I couldn’t find washers the size I needed so found these pretty leaf things at hobby lobby, but I like the look. There are things I would do differently but I enjoyed making it. The next one will be even better. This was my first blade ever as well as scales so I am pleased.

Here is a close up of the leafy things I found at hobby lobby. Hope they don’t look corny.

The balance is great. The scales were perfect for this blade. I was going to use bone but glad I went with the carbon fiber.

With a wire EDM you only get a 2D cut so it has to go all the way through but you can release your part and rotate it or spin it and make additional cuts.

I think it is one of the neatest new razors I've seen. Very innovative. The pins look great -- a more traditional touch. On the heel end of the scales, are those brass pins without washers? Are they peened in or epoxied?

Those are brass pins. I epoxied the wedge between the scale halves and then pinned and peened them. Next I filed down smooth with the scales. They are tight.

When I can get near a keyboard, I'm going to send you a PM. I paid a medical machinist $200 to make me something relatively simple using wire EDM and he failed to follow the very simple but detailed directions I wrote out for him. Instead, he tried to think for himself, so I ended up with a $200 paperweight.

I'm hoping to try again and that you might be able to either do this yourself or to recommend someone else.

Back to the razor, what do you estimate the cutting cost was for that razor?
