I'm still on 400 now, so haven't changed grits yet. But I do alternate my pattern occasionally. Thanks for the input guys, I'll be sure to avoid going the same direction for too long.

Still a long way till I can see the finish line, but she's getting there. Sanding has been slow going though without power tools, and the steel appears to be hard as sh**.
