As far as bands... i know it stands for the differnent color changes in the knot. As in cream, black, cream being a 3 band. As far as difference in what else, i dont know enough...

I found the D01 2 band to be scritchy and very stiff to the point of too much scrub on my face for the first 3 uses. Than it softened up on the tip and is now a great brush. I like a bit of scrubbing...
