Shavemac Do1? or DO1 2 Band? Help me decide...
Looking at a 23mm that comes with either a D01 or a D01 2 Band.
I know the 2 band will be scritchier but by much? Do they soften up with use?
Also which one would be less of a lather hog if at all?

The D01-2 is a world unto it's own in my opinion.
I have knots with both, and the D01 is a nice, Simpsons type knot, all the usual great qualities, backbone, firm, but not much scritch.
The D01-2 is pure rock solid backbone, superb knot quality, and allows you to really give a nice exfoliating type scrub to your face while you use your soap or cream of choice.
I haven't found it mellow at all with time, still stellar and like the day I got it, and doesn't use more or less lather than any other brush.
While I love all the brushes I have, if I had to pick one, it would be a brush with a D01-2 knot....my opinion only of course.

When you say a D01 compares to a Simpson, which one? Best or Super?

Have you considered the Shavemac Silvertip two band? I have a 23mm fan knot loft set at 46mm with that knot and it's a fantastic brush firm no scritch yet it handles hard soaps easily.

I found the D01 2 band to be scritchy and very stiff to the point of too much scrub on my face for the first 3 uses. Than it softened up on the tip and is now a great brush. I like a bit of scrubbing action. I find that now im not crushing the hairs onto my face when working up a nice lather. If you like some scrubbing action i recommend it. If you want something soft and fluffy this is not the brush to get. I can see this one lasting for many many years.

Gentlemen,
I love the shavemac silvertip and the two-band silvertip. The DO1, however, is scratchy and unpleasant for me.

Obie, you must have a girly face. Just kidding. To each his own. Thats why its always YMMV.

I have 2 brushes with 2 different Shavemac 2-band knots. One has really soft tips. I like it fore creams and soft soaps.
The other has the stiffness I like for harder stuff. It seems to be getting a bit scritchier with time?
I personally like that!
Don't know which is a 1 or a 2.....Seems to be conflicting opinions at times which is which?

Well, I have a heavy beard and ultra-sensitive skin. Actually, I can't wear a wool sweater. A new dress shirt must be washed four or five times before I can wear it. OY! So any type of scritch from a brush bothers my skin. My brushes are all silvertips with sweet and soft tips. Good stuff.
