I think it was actually a new brush... bought it to put in a badger knot. ..found a discussion on another forum, talking all about using steam to loosen the knots... actually talked about a brush...

Destructive hands strikes again!

I learned, that unless the goal is to create a Dali-esque brush, I do not suggest using the steam method to loosen the bristles.
The second picture shows there...
