Thanks, Charlie. That ebony is really nice -- solid black and sands perfectly smooth. I think it makes great spacer material.

I seal the wood with a sealer designed for gunstocks. Then I give the wood a light sanding with 400 and 600 sandpaper and apply a linseed oil finish called varnish oil. I buff it out after it cures...
