    Default A pair of twins

New scales for a pair of Henckels razors for a forum member. The top is padauk, and the bottom is bubinga. Butt spacers are ebony.

Did you glue the butt end or use concealed pins?

Very cool looking new clothes on those great blades. Something tells me that you might have some more work comming in when Jerry gets the new blades that I am sending him.

I'm working with a friend in the laser-engraving field on some very interesting personalization alternatives. I hope to be able to post some pictures soon.

    Two more quick questions:

    1. What did you use to "seal" the wood.

    2. Do you test shave the razors that get new scales before they are sent back to make sure that the....uh.....scales work properly during the shave lol?

I seal the wood with a sealer designed for gunstocks. Then I give the wood a light sanding with 400 and 600 sandpaper and apply a linseed oil finish called varnish oil. I buff it out after it cures overnight. If necessary, I apply a second coat of the varnish oil. It gives a nice natural sheen to the wood -- not shiny. The varnish oil I use is approved for food utinsels and can be applied by hand without gloves, so it is very safe.

The ebony butt spacers look really good, I like the contrast with the other woods.
The single pin adds to the clean lines. Looks great.

Thanks, Charlie. That ebony is really nice -- solid black and sands perfectly smooth. I think it makes great spacer material.
