The 1k is for re-setting bevels, if you are honing only your own razors you most likey will only have to use it once per razor,, I have never re-set a bevel after the initial honing on any of mine,,...

I use the 1-3-5-8-10-12 and the DMT 325 to lap them all,,, I own the 250 and the 400 but they are knife stones only

Ahhhhh see there is the problem you have to decide,, There is no "Gap" that is a mental myth, there is only easier and harder, you can actually do the exact same thing with a Naniwa 8k as you can do...
