It is possible that you don't quite have the bevel fully set. The only thing you have changed is your bevel setter. You are used to the result you get off of the 4k, but a new bevel setter preceded...

I would not worry about it yet. The 1k is the bevel setter and the 4k is an intermediate hone for sharpening. Obviously you are not going to stop at 4k so go ahead and go up your progression...
