I don't know if it has been modified, but I assume so. When I close it the toe of the blade is almost 1/4 inch from the bottom spacer. Also the round point is actually sharp, at least up to the end...

Yea I figured it was toast. Might be able to use it for practice on honing. Both of the lines that you circled only show up on one side of the blade, so I don't know if they count or not.

I know the blade does not look that great for five hours, I realy wish I had taken before pictures of this one. It was almost pure black.
