Default 5 hours of hand sanding and then

Well after approximately five hours of hand sanding a razor I look at it closly and find two cracks in the blade. Do to the amount of oxidation the cracks were not visible before the sanding. My camera is not that great, so I marked the cracks with a sharpie. I figure this blade is trash, but figured I would ask if there is anything that can be done

I know the blade does not look that great for five hours, I realy wish I had taken before pictures of this one. It was almost pure black.

You have what looks like a 3rd crack, and maybe a 4th. I know it may be frustrating but you may want to write this one off or save it to play with later. Of course I can only see the picture and I'm a straight newb....

Just curious about one thing- was the point originally that shape or was it re-cut or shaped at some point? That point doesn't look like any round point I've ever seen! Doesn't really look natural.

Hearing that the blade was originally black, it is a big improvement. I have discovered though that sometimes you just can't bring a razor back if it is too far gone. I had one that was fully covered in rust. I sanded it down a bit and discovered that the edge had all kinds of chunks taken out and I think it had lost its hardening since some spots were bent. At least I didn't pay for it.

Yea I figured it was toast. Might be able to use it for practice on honing. Both of the lines that you circled only show up on one side of the blade, so I don't know if they count or not.

I don't know if it has been modified, but I assume so. When I close it the toe of the blade is almost 1/4 inch from the bottom spacer. Also the round point is actually sharp, at least up to the end of the hollow grind.

This was one of 4 razors in an ebay lot. paid less then 20 for the lot and there is one razor that has made that lot worth it, I figured this would be practice before I worked on the Wade and Butcher
