Well I guess I'm wondering whether a clean, polished blade will continue to give off the blackish residue, or does that stop once the blade is fully clean?

I'm using Maas to polish up a vintage blade. Is the idea to keep using more Maas and keep polishing until you don't get anymore black residue coming off onto your polishing cloth? Or will this go on...
