    +1 on the 0000 steel wool, cover the blade with...

    +1 on the 0000 steel wool, cover the blade with the polish first and then use the steel wool. Gold wash would would be gone but an etching like that should be ok if you are careful.

    High quality metal polish (Blue Magic etc) should take that off. The real question is, why is it doing that in the first place?
