Kamisori does indeed mean razor even an electric razor.
It's written 剃(shave)刀(sword/blade). But originally it was written 髪(hair)剃(shave), a Buddhism term of course.

There were a lot of "failures" with the tamahagane razors so Kousuke sensei found a more viable alternative in a particular Swedish steel with little change in final product.

When it comes to kamisori, 45mm is no handicap at all. DE's are less than 40mm.
