Inspired by 10OldGI SOTD today, and after having just received this Merkur 39C SledgeHammer DE in the mail this morning, I thought I'd give it a try with some Tabac.
So I've read here that the slant DE, an incredibly dangerous and aggressive beast , not for beginners, was the closest thing you could get to a straight shave.
Well, gave it a go, actually found I got less irritation with this DE, all the other DE's seem to irritate my neck. Very nice shave, hefty razor, that was nice, and it was fun to change things up. Still, not a straight shave by any means, but it's good to live life on the edge once in awhile!
edit: 20 minutes later...strike the "neck irritation" comment...not as bad, but it burns!

Thanked: 1185Sounds remarkably similar to my own journey to the Slant. I had run the bases starting out with single edge Gems, through vintage DE Gillettes then finally the conversion to straights at which point my safety razors enjoyed LOTS of down time. But the Slant continued to call me. I was curious if it was up to the hype and had to try one out. So about a year or so ago I pulled the trigger on my Merkur 37C. Whatever hype you've heard about the Merkur Slant is probably true and then some. This thing is the bees knees!
