Good morning all - Today is a special shave. I just shaved with my restored and honed this morning Baurmann & Sohne
Honed with Naniwa stones as per Lynn Abrams video demonstration with Naniwa stones
Progression 1000 to set the bevel, 3000, 5000, 8000. As Mr. Abrams suggests, I stopped after the 8k to test shave. I will continue on to the 12k stone and shave with it tomorrow morning.
Here are my comments after test shaving after the 8k Naniwa
Pre-shave: cold water splash
Brush: my little traveling Cerda Pura Excelsior that I bought a number of years back to put in my shaving kit while touring on my bike. Had kind of forgotten it and found it lurking in the back of my bathroom shave cabinet.
Castle Forbes Lime Essential Oil shave cream
Razor 6/8" Baurmann & Sohne with new maple scales
Post shave Alum razor rock face toner
AS Ogallala DS Bay Rum
Shave quality: Good
Now here is something. After I shaved, took the pic, yada, blah, blah, I was looking at the razor and then it dawned on me!
"You donkey-butt, Chris! You forgot to strop it before you shaved!" I was so anxious to shave I forgot to strop!" ARghhhhhh! So the shave was right off the 8k stone. It was popping arm hair all along the length of the blade just fine. Anyway, short version I will strop and shave again tomorrow morning before taking it to the 12K
