For those who don't understand French pronunciation, it sounds just like you would pronounce the Idaho town of Ponduray. Cuz 'Merica.

Isn't the town Ponderay? "Ponduray" sounds a little frenchy with the "u" in, which I know having relatives that live in Core-da-Lane.

French names should sound a little "Frenchy" if you ask me. . Guess that's what I get for neglecting to confirm the spelling, so yes, it's Ponderay. My point was that the locals couldn't handle the French spelling so they Americanized the town's name for ease of those who might otherwise say, "Pond-d'Oriole."

Thanks for correcting me. I normally spell real good.

Oh, I totally get it. You can imagine the disconnect I had growing up (before I could read/spell) hearing that we were going to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins in Core-da-Lane and then seeing Coeur d'Alene and wondering, How in the hell do you say those mashed up vowels!? It's a fabulous area though--absolutely love it!

Same here. I moved to Spokane just before starting high school and taking 2 years of French. I was just another rube calling that gigantic lake, Pend-Oriole.

Fantastic, Glen. I'm hoping to see a little boating on YouTube.
