The NOS ones available are supreme shavers, Aaron.
This is one of 11 plucked from a factory display board of 14.
In production, some were stopped before bevel set. Some were honed nicely.

This one was, after honing, on it's first shave ever.
What a lovely and smooth shave it delivered..
You will get a great shaver, no matter what it takes, FME.[/QUOTE]

Tom-I have no doubt of the shave, and I've been inspired by what you do with Herders. The last time I was at Smoky Mountain Knife Works (about 4 or 5 years ago), they seemed to have the world's entire collection of Herders on the walls in glass display cases. You didn't luck into some of those, did you? I'm thinking African Blackwood or Gaboon Ebony scales and silver appointments in at least a passing nod to tradition (at least in scale color), maybe black horn. Leave the blade mostly as is, as it appears untouched/unhoned. What do you think?
