    Sweet & Sour shave today.

Outstanding shave with all of the Captains products.

It was actually an incredibly effortless and wonderful shave.

And as I was gathering everyone for the closing shot, I go to pick up my Koraat…and I hear a little clink.

I look and see a little black piece finishing its bounce and lay still.

I immediately knew what it was.

I piece had broken off the acrylic scales, right at the pivot point. (See photo, near pivot pin).

    Dang-it!!

Ruined my entire shave experience for the day.

I had shaved, then re-honed it before placing it back on its stand.

And then I had grabbed it from its stand a few minutes later for the picture, when it happened.

Thank goodness I have an extra black buffalo horn block laying around. I was gonna make some custom scales for another straight razor, but I guess it will be for my Koraat now.

In closing (let’s see who actually reads these SOTD posts), should I make the new scales from the water buffalo horn, or should I purchase acrylic material and make the scales from that?

    Still a great shave.

    Straight: Koraat 14-2.0 (custom shortened)
DE: Carbon Shaving Cx-316L (head shave)
    Lather: Captains Choice “Sandalwood”
    Balm: Captains Choice “Sandalwood”
    Splash: Captains Choice “Sandalwood”
    Brush: Mühle (synthetic)
    Bowl: Captains Choice (large)

If it was vintage I'd say definitely horn but as its a modern custom black acrylic as per originals will look great.
