ill check that out, thanks dewey as for stropping... tonight i stropped about 30 full passes (up and down = 1 pass) on my old belt... but i did it on the reverse side (which was pretty smooth after years of service) but, of course, the belt had a little bit of a sideways curve (not cupped, still a relatively flat surface... just curved from my fat @$$) with both my razors and shaved using both of them to get a feel for both razors... one was definitely smoother than the other (O_O) ill tell you that lol i still dont know why.... maybe the other one is just TOO sharp... my face doesnt handle feather DE blades well... maybe the sharpness thing goes the same for straights? i dont know... but i know at the end of the whole mess... my face took a beating with the aftershave lol

im a little depressed though... i want both of them to work great... but for some reason, one is just so harsh... im going to wait till i get my good strop in the mail, hopefully no later than friday.. then i will make an accurate assumption of what is working best for me

I would really recommend taking at least one day off to let your face recover a little before shaving again. Otherwise it will just get more painful as you keep irritating your face more. Your skin needs to adjust to the blade.

oh i know... you are right 110%.... i tell myself that same sh** every night after i shave... but then, tomorrow... as with every day... come time to take my evening shower... my face feels "alright" and im fiending for an ass whoopin... lol i just cant stop shaving its like, with a video game... or a guitar lesson... or building a model of some sort... these are all things you can do till your tired of doing them.... as many times a day as you want, for however long you want... with shaving, you are very limited... plain and simple, im trying to build my skills up... and i just plum run out of hair to shave lol (of course, chest.. arms... legs... and "other" areas are far removed from what i consider to be "shavable"...) so i find myself wanting to do it as much as possible to hopefully stumble on that "perfect" strategy.... you know? i should let it rest... i really should.. im going to do my best to not shave tomorrow.... wish me luck lol

The way I see it you just need to ask yourself two questions.

    1. Do I like pain?
    2. Am I Chuck Norris?

If you answered yes to either of these questions then go right on ahead shaving twice a day without giving your skin a chance to recover. If you answered no to both of these questions, then you will definately find success faster if you let your skin have a fresh start before shaving again. Patience is a virtue, and the tortoise wins the race to straight razor shaving success, not the hare. You are limited by your "hare" growth .

ill try to give it a days rest... i only shaved twice that one day, mainly because i didnt get a very consistent shave... lots of patchy areas the first time around... but the second time went pretty well.

____|, scales up vertically, blade out to the left with edge down towards the ground. basically you have opend the scales up 270degrees

grab the blade, 2 fingers each side of the scales(1 in the front/ 3behind if its more comfortable for you) thumb underneath. thats how you hold it, it doesn't change at all from that grip while doing the right side of your face with N/S passes. yes your hand turns, spins around so that your palm faces in to your face. don't change the grip .. then stroke N to S.. top to bottom of your right cheek and right neck. i hold it like this for my entire lip and chin.

i then change to my left hand using the exact same thing but left hand to do my left cheek/neck.

pretty simple and it will become second nature very quickly.

Warlockdlx69 is right: sounds very easy.
This is typically a case of: one picture says more than a thousand words!
I suggest Lynn's DVD or u-tube shaving movies to have a good look at the grip.
