No shave day
No shave today gentlemen, but a day trip to the monastery and the hermitage of Camaldoli only 8km from our agriturismo. The hermitage is a beautiful and secluded place high in the mountains. The monks there live secluded lives in their homes that didn’t have electricity, heating nor air conditioning until about 50 years ago. Lives filled with prayer and study of the scriptures. They would even get their food through small windows with doors on both sides of the wall so as not to see or interact with other monks. These days there’s a bit more comfort and more communal lunches and dinners, but forget about computers or internet. A special place for a handful of dedicated souls.
The Farmacia at the regular monastery has great carved walnut doors and still sells products made there locally. I only bought the propolis soap and the after shave. The smell is great. Fresh and light. I really like it. They also have a very old library. One of the books on display had some images of scissors, razors and barber supplies. A very special day.
