Yeah, Dave n I were kinda tight, as how our lives were lived. Both being farm boys, enjoying the outdoors, and the freedom country life brought.
We were in the process of working up a razor meet n greet, along with a pig roast to enjoy while all attended, not shortly before his passing.
We kinda came together after him asking me if I would remove the pivot screws in his Rigarazor, and pin it conventional.
Sure...no problano.!
I was surprised by its size of 10/8ths, at first.
But what I really noticed was the edge was full of micro chips, and sent Dave some pics.
Said...hone it up for me.
I can say I've honed hundreds, maybe a thousand or more razors, of all styles n grinds even. But nothing as smooth and fluid on a hone, as a Rigarazor. So perfectly ground and finished, IMHO. And the shave.!!
Words can't describe it.
I let Dave know if he'd ever want to part with it, I'd buy it. Jokingly, of course. But also serious to a point. When I seen the 8/8 carbon steel Riga come up in the Movember auction, I had to have it. I won the bid, and upon arrival if find his 10/8 Tungsten in the box with it. I gave him a call, being I had his home #, said what's up.!? Something wrong with it.?
Dave replies... Nope, its yours, buddy. I know how much you adored it, and I know it'll go to someone who will appreciate and take care of it.
I was blown away... Still am. Funny that I kept the original screws to the razor.

Thanked: 1082That was such a nice thing for Dave to do.
My experience with a Rigarazor echos yours Mike. I think we spoke about it before, it was so smooth straight out of the box but after a few shaves tuged a bit. Inspection under a loupe showed mine was full of micro chips too. A quick trip to the hones and its been a great shaver ever since. I think we came to the conclusion that Serji uses pastes heavily to hone his razors.

Looks like I'll need to add another razor to the 'maybe one day' list. Great read through, Dave sounds like a heck of a guy.
