    Original, no doubt. One of Rodger's oddities. Came to me in it's coffin in like new condition years ago. Don't think it had ever been used.

    In looking back over the thread, I am leaning toward post 19 by CJBianco in that it is to secure a comb, or guard to prevent an extreme angle from cutting.
    Early safety razor. I need to research more.....(HINT!)
